Local guide for DrupalCon Sydney 2013 attendees

Coogee bay road is 5 mins from the Crowne Plaza venue: it starts at the beach and ends in Randwick - a larger shopping/business/hospital zone
To get there walk down Arden st to the big bus stop and turn left up Coogee bay road
It holds amongst other things:

  • Coogee bay hotel (pub):. has a bottle shop for alcohol
  • Bakery: baker's delight
  • Brazilian eatery (for Felipe) all you can eat Peciña etc
  • Maloney's - the shop of endless best fruit, deli stuff, dairy, pastries etc
  • Chemist: corner with brook st: blooms chemist open until 8 or 9pm. or another one corner with arden st.
  • Cross brook street then a small shopping centre with newsagent, bakery, deli and Woolworths. has everything that a traveller could want. including $2 sim cards.
  • Doctor medical centre: opp corner with brook st.
  • Doctor that comes to you: Locum 8724-6300
  • Bank: opp corner with brook st
  • Post office: up the brook st from the bank
  • Thai foot and body massage about $65 per hour in 15min increments: opposite woolworths on coogee bay road
  • Hospital: in Randwick has both adult's and children's emergency. if you can get whatever it is privately fixed (e.g. locum above) then do. It's miles quicker.

Right next to the hotel Zanzibar, and the vietnamese/chinese place are great places for a pow-wow. Vegetarian options at most restaurants.

Avoid fish and chips at the bus stop unless you have a strong stomach. If you need some grease then Erciyes's Kebabs on Coogee Bay Road are very good and Mcdonalds is a few shops along Arden street from Coogee Bay Road turnoff.

Locally, buses run to Randwick (373) and via Bondi Junction to the city (313 e.g.) . Also to the city via Centennial Park (374). The great big bus-stop at the beach (where the coffee shop and fish and chip are) takes you everywhere you want to go.

If you like walking / running run along the coastline north to Bondi until you run out of steam. On the way you can stop for coffee at Clovelly beach, Bronte Beach, Tamarama Beach then Bondi Beach.
